The number of domestic abuse incidents reported to police in Orkney continues to rise despite a nationwide drop in reported violence.
Figures released by Police Scotland this week reveal that the number of incidents has tripled over the last decade.
During the 2015-16 reporting period there were 138 cases of domestic abuse flagged up to detectives, compared with 114 in 2014-15 and 44 in 2006-7.
In contrast, nationwide figures have shown a three per cent drop.
A spokeswoman for Women’s Aid Orkney (WAO) said: “The WAO staff steam have worked incredibly hard over the last three-plus years to raise the profile of the service to encourage more women in Orkney to come forward for support.
“In turn, this has related to a continued increase in the number of self and agency referrals we receive annually.”
WAO stressed that a high number of victims remain hesitant to disclose their situation to the police.
