An Aberdeen business has raised over £10,000 for charity after their personnel spent a night sleeping on the streets.
Apprentices at Aberdeen Asset Management swapped their home comforts for a night under the stars and raised £10,600 for Aberdeen Cyrenians.
More than 30 staff took part alongside the five apprentices who have already smashed their target with a week of fundraising to go.
Depute chief executive of Aberdeen Cyrenians, Scott Baxter said: “We are all absolutely delighted with the Aberdeen Asset Management apprentices’ efforts and enthusiasm in reaching their target of £10,000 in such a short space of time.”
Hannah Booth, one of the fundraising team, added: “What really hit home was that, in the morning, we could pack up and return to our homes and hot showers, warm meals and comfy beds.”
“The reality for homeless people is that they don’t have that choice, and face the uncertainty and discomfort on a daily basis, and not knowing where to go and how to survive another day.”
Fellow apprentice Rachel Adam said: “It was definitely a lot more difficult than we thought it would be. The part I found most difficult was actually trying to get to sleep because it was so uncomfortable, we only had a bit of cardboard.”
Aberdeen Cyrenians aims to meet the needs of people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless by offering food, shelter and advice.
