A joint call has been made for people to stay safe during the party season while enjoying the best the north-east has to offer.
The appeal came as the police, fire service, and ambulance service launched the festive phase of Operation Oak at Aberdeen’s Castlegate.
Meanwhile the force revealed the number of assaults within the city centre has plummeted by more than 35% below the five-year average.
While the number is also 10% fewer than the same period last year.
There are 30 organisations involved in spearheading the campaign, including the services, the city council and Aberdeen Inspired.
But while there will be an increased focus on ensuring revellers are safe while out and about, the police have stressed that people should ensure they are looking after themselves and their friends.
Chief Inspector Graeme Mackie, area commander for the city centre, said: “My message is always one of come in and enjoy Aberdeen city, but we really need people to look after themselves first and foremost, know how you’re getting home and look out for your mates.
“If you think someone has had too much to drink, you need to look after them and tell them.
“Our jobs are made far more difficult by people not being responsible and maybe drinking too much or not knowing their limitations.”
Meanwhile, the ambulance service has said their calls are expected to increase by 20-30% through Christmas and New Year.
Ewan Murray, area service manager, added: “The biggest problem for us is that people are drinking large amounts of alcohol during this period.
“Some people aren’t used to coming into the city centre and drinking, they may join their colleagues after the office party and consume too much.”
Among the advice being issued as part of the operation are to plan the night ahead, stay together with friends, never leave drinks unattended, and keep phones at all times, fully charged.
