Plans have been unveiled for 32 new homes in Orkney’s biggest town.
A scoping application for the social rented housing in Kirkwall has been submitted to the local authority and, yesterday, a contract was advertised for the design and build of the properties.
The development at Carness Road will comprise a mix of one, two and three-bed homes.
The contract for the development has been valued at between £3.5million and £4million and work is expected to start later this year or early in 2018.
Yesterday capital programme manager Ian Rushbrook said the plans were still in the early stages, adding: “It will be a good development for Kirkwall by increasing the number of properties available.”
The deadline for contractors to participate in the bidding process is February 24, and the contract will be awarded at the start of May.
