Man dies after blaze at Western Isles home

A man has died following a blaze at a Western Isles home.

Emergency services were called after reports of a house fire at Kildonan, South Uist, at around 5.40pm last night.

The fire was brought under control by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

However, police confirmed this morning that a man, the only resident within the property at the time, has died as a result.

The cause of the fire is unexplained at this time and police enquiries remain ongoing.

Next of kin have been informed.
