TWO women were taken to hospital yesterday after being run down by the same car in a north-east town.
One of the casualties was airlifted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and the other was taken by ambulance after the incident at Huntly.
Both were struck by a green Jaguar X-Type near the town’s Bogie Bridge.
The woman who was airlifted – 33-year-old Pauline Thomson – suffered head injuries. A third person, understood to be the driver of the car, is thought to have been treated at the scene by a local GP.
A man was also airlifted to ARI last night after his silver Renault Clio left a country road and hit a tree.
Last night, a police spokesman said investigations into the cause of the Huntly accident were continuing but said it was not thought either of the women had suffered life-threatening injuries.
Mrs Thomson’s mother, Anna Grant, said she had been enjoying a family gathering at her home and had just gone out on an errand.
Mrs Grant said: “She went out for a message and next I know a lassie from the hairdresser’s came to the door and said that Pauline was in an accident.
“So next I went down and saw her on the road, the ambulances were there and the police, I didn’t know what was wrong.”
Mrs Thomson’s husband is believed to have gone to ARI to be with his wife.
Mrs Grant and her family were still awaiting news of her daughter’s condition, but she added: “They’re going to take her away for a scan.”
A police spokeswoman said: “It was a vehicle versus two pedestrians. We got the call at 11.50am.”
Bogie Street was cordoned off between the junctions with Old Road and Mill Road for about three hours after the incident.
An investigation into the accident started after both casualties were taken to hospital.
Only residents could pass through the road with permission from the police until it was reopened.
Several locals described hearing the air ambulance land in Huntly.
One nearby resident said: “We heard the commotion, and the police cars and helicopter.
“I didn’t want to go down and look because the police were everywhere.”
Another local said: “The first and only thing I saw was the blue lights coming down.
“I heard the helicopter come in, but I didn’t really see it.”
Meanwhile, police are appealing for witnesses to last night’s accident on the A944 Aberdeen-Alford road, just east of the village of Sauchen, which happened around 6.20pm.
The driver, who is understood to be in his 20s, was seriously injured.
He was treated by paramedics at the scene before being airlifted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary by an RAF Lossiemouth-based Sea King helicopter.
No one else was involved in the accident.
The road was busy with commuters heading home at the time of the crash.
