Police in Banchory are investigating reports that a young boy was approached by a man in the woods.
It happened near Lawson Avenue in the town, at around noon on Sunday.
Police say they have no reason to think anything untoward happened – but are checking after a member of the public raised concern.
It is understood the man and boy had a brief conversation.
They want to speak to the man – thought to be in his 50s or 60s – to find out exactly what happened.
He is described as being 5ft 6in, with grey hair and was wearing brown clothing.
Sergeant Steve Robertson said: “At this time there is nothing to suggest that anything untoward has happened here, however we would like to trace the man involved to establish the exact circumstances of this incident.
“If you were in the area at the time and saw anything which could assist with our inquiries I would urge you to get in touch. Likewise if you recognise yourself as the man described I would ask that you make contact with us.”
Anyone with information should call 101.
