Orkney Islands Council is the smallest authority in Scotland – returning 21 councillors.
It has historically been ruled by independent councillors – and the vast majority of candidates have no affiliation this time around.
However, the Scottish Greens are fielding two candidates as are the Orkney Manifesto Group.
Three candidates will be elected unopposed in the Stromness and South Isles Ward.
They are sitting councillors Rob Crichton and James Stockan, along with newcomer Magnus Thomson.
A total of 35 candidates will compete for the remaining 18 seats.
