The plight of residents in a Skye care home which is set to close in two months was raised in the Scottish Parliament yesterday.
Local MSP Kate Forbes, who wants an urgent solution to ensure that residents at The Haven in Uig can stay on the island, questioned Public Health Minister Aileen Campbell on how the Scottish Government supports residential care for older people in rural areas.
Ms Forbes said: “There is a pressing need for adult residential care in Skye and so I was sad to learn that The Haven in Uig is to be closed.
“There is pressure on care beds for the elderly across the island, so this will exacerbate the situation. The ideal solution for current residents and the community is a local care home, but I’m keen to look at all the options.”
The minister offered to meet Ms Forbes to discuss the matter in more detail.
