Winning pupils from a small Lochaber school scored a double first at the annual music festival in the region.
Five youngsters from Invergarry Primary picked up a first prize at the Lochaber Music Festival – the first time they have represented the school at the popular event.
Josef Kocjan-Briggs, Hana Doherty, Fergus Donald, Darris Riddle and Murray Donald, who make up school’s string ensemble, performed two pieces for the judges who commended their performance.
Head teacher Kim Bentley said: “We are very proud of the children and what they have achieved. The youngest is in P4 and the oldest is in P7 and this is the first time they have played together at the festival.
“The children are taught by Mhairi MacKinnon, Highland Council’s strings instructor for the area. They played the Honey Bee song and a traditional Gaelic air, Buain a’ranaich, which Mhairi arranged.
“We are just a small school with 32 children in our primary classes, but the children are very keen to learn to play and we have a waiting list for those wanting to take up strings.
“Our string ensemble did brilliantly and we are just delighted.”
