Ms Dugdale issued a rallying cry to voters across the north-east arguing they could “send a strong message” against another independence referendum by voting for the party.
The Aberdeen-born leader said that the ruling city Labour group had “exciting” plans for their upcoming manifesto to address “fundamental issues” in the region.
She said: “This is a local election, this is about the work Labour are doing here in Aberdeen and when you look at their record over the past few years it is one to be immensely proud of.
“What you have with Labour are real local champions who are focused on delivering for their community. If you vote SNP and get an SNP councillor – all you’re going to have is a champion for independence.
“I would appeal to people to think about two things when they go to the polling stations in Aberdeen on May 4 – the first is if you vote for Labour it is a strong message to Nicola Sturgeon to leave those arguments about a second independence referendum behind us.
“People don’t want to be dragged back to that and Labour stand steadfastly against a second independence referendum and independence.
“The second point is that if you are voting Labour you are voting for a local champion for your community.
“Labour councillors now are the only things standing between the cuts agenda being pursued by both the Tories and the SNP.”
