The man, believed to have been diving for scallops, was reported missing in the Stronsay firth off Eday after failing to return to his boat on time. The alarm was raised around 2.15pm and ships in the area were asked to watch out for the diver. He was located and taken on board by the offshore support vessel Olympic Challenger which was in the area. Kirkwall lifeboat was also launched to assist. A spokeswoman for the coastguard in Shetland said the man was “safe and well”.
