Police are appealing for witnesses following a fatal crash near a Braemar hotel.
The incident happened on the A93 Ballater to Blairgowrie road, near Invercauld, Braemar near the Inver Lodge Hotel shortly after 1am this morning and involved a red Seat Ibiza.
Police confirmed the crash involved one vehicle and that the driver was a 30-year-old male who died at the scene – there were no other passengers in the vehicle.
Two fire crews, one from Braemar and one from Ballater also attended the scene to assist the Police whilst the road was closed for 9 hours.
A Police spokesman confirmed the road was now open and said: “I can confirm there has been one male fatality and only one vehicle was involved a red Seat Ibiza. The road was closed for 9 hours to allow a collision investigation to be carried out.
“We can confirm the 30-year old male driver, was the sole occupant of the vehicle, died at the scene.
“Any person who witnessed the collision, or saw the motor car in the Deeside area prior to the collision, is asked to contact Police Scotland by telephoning 101.”
