James Newbigging is lead vocalist and guitarist in emerging Leeds indie-pop band Marsicans, who will be at The Tunnels, Aberdeen, on May 22.
When does your weekend start?
I don’t really have a defined weekend most of the time. When we’re on tour, we’re often away at weekends, and when we’re not, we spend a lot of time writing. We sometimes have control over it though and we tend to try and stick to the usual finish at five on a Friday, but that’s more so we can fit in with everyone else’s schedules for once.
Perfect night in?
A Will Ferrell film; an increasingly competitive board game with my girlfriend, and Ted my dog.
Perfect night out?
Going to see one of my favourite bands, followed by catching up with friends.
Ideal weekend partner?
My girlfriend, Aisling. It’s nice to try and get out and do new things while we both have time off together.
Favourite weekend shopping destination?
Any place where you can find random clothing and items. I recently bought some Star Wars lightsaber BBQ tongs.
Favourite place to walk?
Through the city. Leeds city. I know it’s kind of the opposite to where you’re meant to enjoy walking, but I love walking round looking up at the buildings.
Weekend you’d love to live again?
Glastonbury 2016 was special. Playing there with my best mates and watching some of our favourite bands.
Weekend you’d hate to live again?
The other year we were meant to play a festival and I stupidly broke my ankle on the day we were meant to play.
Perfect Sunday breakfast?
A bowl of cereal with loads of fruit on top, and about three cups of tea. Tea is my most important part of breakfast by far.
Your cure for the Sunday blues?
Bingeing a TV series on Netflix. The auto play really does all the work.
Your dream weekend if money was no object?
Go to New York and do every touristy thing I could physically do.
