A Yorkshire terrier was discovered by a road in Orkney in an “extremely bad condition”.
Scottish SPCA were alerted about the dog on Thursday and said it was found “very matted and skinny” on Halley Road, Deerness.
Auxiliary Inspector Lara Vickery said, “The dog was found on Thursday with very badly matted fur and extremely underweight. There is a very real possibility she was abandoned however we want to understand the circumstances that led to her condition.
“The poor wee girl was also blind with a number of mammary gland tumours that obviously were causing her distress.
“Unfortunately, following vet advice, she has since been put to sleep due to the extent of her condition.”
