Aberdeenshire Liberal Democrats have responded to Alex Salmond’s “scare-mongering” claims the new council administration plans to close rural schools, as reported by the Press and Journal on June 3.
The SNP candidate for Gordon published a statement last week in which he suggested Aberdeenshire Council’s administration “is coming for your school”.
However, councillor Peter Argyle, leader of the Liberal Democrat group, countered: “It is very sad a politician of Mr Salmond’s experience is attempting to worry the voters of Gordon with fantastic tales of rural school closures.
“To claim the Aberdeenshire council administration “is coming for your school” isn’t just rhetoric; it is scare-mongering on an epic scale.
“He is equating clear commitments in the administration’s manifesto with “closure”. There is no basis for this; it is bogus conclusion and I suspect he knows it.”
