An algal bloom has been confirmed at a loch in Shetland.
Sepa has confirmed that blue green algae has been found in Kirkhouse Water near Park Hall in Bixter.
Shetland Islands Council said notices will be posted in local shops, veterinary surgery and on access routes next to the loch warning that contact with algal scum should be avoided.
NHS Shetland and fishing interests have been advised of the situation and adjoining land owners will also be contacted.
Contact with affected water can cause skin problems.
Blue-green algae exists in fresh water across the world and when concentrated they form blooms, which forms a scum which looks like or blue or green paint on the surface.
