A survey of Press and Journal readers shows the SNP facing a serious fight from the Conservatives in the general election.
Some 829 registered users of our website told us during polling day who they had backed at the ballot box.
The nationalists remained the most popular party, with 45.1% expressing a preference for Nicola Sturgeon’s ruling party.
But – in a result that closely reflects a huge surge in Tory support at last month’s general election – Ruth Davidson’s party are their closest rivals, only around five points adrift on 39.6.
Only small numbers said they had backed the Liberal Democrats or Labour, who were left to slug it out for third place on 7.6% and 6.9%.
