Community in shock after death of Shetland man in motorcycle accident

A 60-year-old man who died in a motorcycle accident in Shetland has been named.
Robert Gidney from Sandness died in hospital after a collision between his red Honda CBF motorcycle and a black Mitsubishi Trojan pick-up truck on Monday.
The accident happened on the B9071 near Aith on Monday.
Mr Gidney’s neighbour, Councillor Cecil Smith, said the small community was in deep shock.
He said: “Our thoughts go out to the family at this difficult time.
“The community is deeply affected by this sad news.”
Ian, as he was known locally, had made a name for himself as “the journeyman” producing high quality leather belts and saddler.
He was a former chairman of the Shetland Arts & Crafts Association.
The man driving the Mitsubishi involved in the collision was uninjured.
