A new awards scheme launched to boost civic pride in Inverurie has been inundated with nominations.
The Pride of Inverurie Awards will recognise the very best of the town and surrounding area, celebrating the best traders, community champions, tourist spots and local heroes.
Entry has now closed for the eight categories and a team is now whittling down short-lists for each to three finalists.
Trevor Hart, who has been involved with the Inverurie Bid group, is helping to organise the awards which form part of the Bid’s business plan.
Last night Mr Hart, who is also chairman of Inverurie Events, said: “We have had a great response for nominations, especially for the young achiever – it is going to be hard to shortlist them. It is so good to see so many young people helping in their community and volunteering their time – they are vital for our future.
“By getting the Bid, the town has received a huge boost for events. I think all Inverurie people are hugely loyal to our town. And I would also recommend that anyone wanting to get involved in helping run our events to get in touch – there is no better way to get involved in the community.”
The Pride of Inverurie awards are for best businessman, best businesswoman, sports personality, unsung hero, young achiever, community champion, tourism hot spot and a lifetime achievement accolade.
Each award will be sponsored by a business in the town, and three finalists will have a minute-long video shown at the black-tie gala night before the winner of each category is announced.
Bancon Homes are the main sponsors of the event, which will be held at Inverurie Town Hall on Friday, August 25.
Inverurie voted to become the latest town to join the Business Improvement Districts across Scotland with a 87% yes ballot last week.
