An Aberdeenshire based charity has been awarded a financial boost from the local area council budget.
SensationALL has been awarded £10,000, which will be used for the renovation and re-purposing of the Westhill centre.
The charity is nearly finished a community asset transfer of the Old Schoolhouse in Westhill, and the funds will be used to repair the building until final handover.
The charity provides therapeutic activities and specialist support for individuals with disabilities or multiple support needs and their families and associated professionals.
However, part of the building is being upgraded to meet Care Commission standards to operate as a stand-alone out of school club called Schools Out. This new social enterprise will offer breakfast and after school clubs from the Westhill facility – giving all profits back to SensationALL.
Suz Strachan, SensationALL operational team lead hopes the club will be open in time for August, and thanked the Garioch area committee for the cash.
“Although we have had a lot of pro-bono work already carried out from local tradesmen and other companies, the extra cash means we can replace flooring, add outside storage and fix the place up.
“The whole ethos of the out of school club is to turn the inclusion thing on its head – it’s like the mainstream joining in with us, not the other way round.”
The charity was set up in 2012 after the closure of the Raeden Centre in the summer of 2011.
