A man’s body was recovered from the shoreline on Barra this morning.
The man had been reported missing at about 10pm on Wednesday and a multi-agency search involving Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.
The 32-year-old’s body was found in the Traigh a’Ghoirtein area of the island at around 7am.
Police said there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances at this time and the man’s next of kin have been informed.
Officers are now trying to establish the man’s movements and are keen to speak to anyone who saw a person matching his description walking from Castlebay in the direction of Vatersay from about 2pm on Wednesday.
He is described as being around 5ft 10in in height. When last seen he was wearing a green top and brightly coloured trainers.
Detective Sergeant Iain Morrison said: “Our thoughts are with the gentleman’s family and friends at this difficult time.
“I would ask anyone with information which could help establish his final movements to make contact with Police on 101, quoting reference NH2583/17.”
