The date of the by-election for the Aberdeenshire council seat vacated by Colin Clark MP has been announced.
The seat for Inverurie and District became vacant officially on Monday, July 17 when Mr Clark’s resignation became effective.
He resigned following his win at the General Election held on June 8 and now the council has set the date for the by-election as Thursday, October 12 with the count taking place the following day.
Aberdeenshire Council’s Chief Executive Jim Savege received the resignation of Colin Clark of Inverurie and District Ward following his move to Westminster and said: “I thank Councillor Clark for his service to Aberdeenshire. He will continue to serve his constituents at Westminster, so his links with Aberdeenshire Council will remain strong.”
Colin Clark had served on Aberdeenshire Council since November 2016, but decided to stand down after he gained the Gordon seat in June, ousting the former MP Alex Salmond.
Mr Clark said. “I have enjoyed my time representing the people of Inverurie whilst at the Council and I am looking forward to representing them and the rest of Gordon at Westminster.”
Plans are now being put in place for a by-election on October 12th, with the Count taking place the following day. Further details will be announced once arrangements have been confirmed.
