A 53-year-old diver has died while exploring a WWI wreck in Scapa Flow – the second diving tragedy in Orkney this month.
The man, who has not been named, experienced difficulties while exploring the German battleship Markgraf, which lies in 45 metres of water.
Police were alerted at around 9.45am.
Search teams quickly recovered the body from the water and he was transferred ashore, but died before reaching hospital.
Police Scotland said there were no suspicious circumstances and a report would be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
It is the second diver fatality in Orkney in less than a fortnight.
On October 6, the body of a 64-year-old man was recovered from the water north-east of Cava Lighthouse after a boat reported one of its divers 15 minutes overdue.
A search, involving the Coastguard helicopter and lifeboat, located the body after 90 minutes.
