An Aberdeen shopping centre was evacuated this afternoon after a computer caught fire.
Two fire engines were called to the St Nicholas Centre at 1pm, as hundreds of shoppers and diners were ushered out of the building.
A spokesman for the fire service confirmed that the venue’s alarms had been activated by a “small fire” in a computer – which had been extinguished by the time crews arrived.
He added: “The crews investigated a smell of burning and found the source of the fire in an office.
“The only equipment used was a thermal imaging camera, and the stop message came through at 1.39pm.”
Centre manager, Craig Stevenson, confirmed that the matter was dealt with in swift fashion.
He said: “The building had to be evacuated because the fire alarm went off, but we received the all-clear within 15 minutes and the fire brigade advised that we could resume business.”
