Shetland Islands councillor Cecil Smith has resigned as leader of the local authority.
Writing to council convener Malcolm Bell, Mr Smith said he had taken the decision for personal reasons.
A council spokeswoman said: “Malcolm Bell has accepted his resignation, saying that he’s sorry at Mr Smith’s decision, but that he fully understands his reasons.
“He also thanks Mr Smith for his service to the Council in recent years in various leadership roles.
Councillor Steven Coutts, as deputy leader, will provide continuity until a new leader is elected.
