A crofter has died on Berneray in the Western Isles while working alone in what appears to be a tragic accident.
The man was named locally as Hector MacLeod, 58, who was a well-known member of the close-knit community of 140.
He was tending cattle on land near Borve Cemetery on the island when he died. It is understood that barriers to contain a bull had been knocked down. The animal was then put down.
A police spokesman said: “There are no suspicious circumstances and a report has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”
A spokesman from the Scottish Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 11.57am yesterday to attend an incident on Berneray. We dispatched one ambulance to the scene.”
