The handover of a brand new 17 seater minibus took place in Kyleakin on Tuesday which will benefit and aid community groups.
The minibus, which has been donated by Marine Harvest, will be put to use immediately by the local primary school, football team and support group Kyleakin Connections.
Local councillor John Finlayson said: “I have been regularly visiting Marine Harvest’s new feed plant which is being built at Altanavaig and I was keen to explore projects they could support to demonstrate their commitment to working with the local community.
“The mini bus project will benefit the whole community and I’m delighted it’s already being so well received by local groups.”
Michael Taylor, chairman of Kyleakin Community Minibus Group, said: “Given our geographical location, we know this vehicle is going to provide a real transport lifeline to many groups and organisations in our area including the local primary schools, sports teams, youth clubs, voluntary societies, as well as those providing vital services for older people and those with disabilities.
“It wouldn’t have been possible without the support of not just Marine Harvest, but also the Kyleakin Gala Day Committee, who donated all profits from their popular annual event in 2016 and 2017 to our cause, and to Kyleakin Football Club and other local individuals and businesses who have given us significant financial backing.
“We are also grateful to our local Highland councillor, John Finlayson, who has played a key role in securing this deal with Marine Harvest.”
