A senior council official will be be making the switch between Shetland and Aberdeen.
Jonathan Belford, Shetland Islands council’s finance manager, will be replaced by Maggie Sandison.
He has been in the role since 2014 but now is leaving “to face new challenges” in Aberdeen.
He said: “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with talented officers and councillors and I will sorely miss my own staff who have delivered their work time after time on the frontline and in support of the Council and Pension Fund.
“I know that I leave the council in a good financial position, but it’s not without its challenges.
“I am certain that Maggie and the corporate management team will support the council to tackle those challenges head on, and I wish everyone here the best of luck for the future.”
Mr Belford will be leaving Shetland to become chief officer of finance at Aberdeen City Council, where he previously worked for 17 years as corporate accounting manager.
His replacement, Mrs Sandison, is currently chief executive of Shetland Islands Council. She was the first woman to be elected into the role this February, after joining the council in 2004.
She said: “His ability to translate complex financial information for non-experts has earned him the respect of our elected members and staff.
“I am sorry to see him leave us, but respect his decision to take the professional opportunity this role presents for him, and I wish him all the very best.”
