A traveller from Skye missing in Australia has been traced “safe and well.”
Daniel Buckner’s family raised the alarm on Saturday with Police Scotland, sparking a search on the other side of the globe for the 28-year-old.
In a Facebook appeal Northern Territory Police, Fire and Emergency Services said: “Northern Territory Police have located a 28-year-old Scottish male after he was reported missing.
“The male was located safe and well in Queensland.”
Mr Buckner had last made contact with his family on May 21. Police in Scotland issued an appeal to the public via Twitter on Saturday to try locate the Skye man.
Daniel’s mother Maria Buckner said: “We received a phone call from him earlier this morning and he is safe and well. His phone had been damaged in salt water.
“He is currently off grid at the moment, by a road house in the Northern Territory, when a guy came up to him and showed him his picture asking if it was him.
“Its so good that the message managed to spread so fast.
“We are thankful to the police in Scotland, Australia and everyone who shared the tweet and messages.
“We can breathe easy now.
“When he gets back to more civilisation, because he had to borrow this persons phone, he is going to get himself a new one.”
