Youth group leaders in the Highlands and islands were among those celebrating after their work was recognised in the Queen’s New Year Honours List last night.
Susan Ann Mackenzie, captain of the 2nd Inverness Girls’ Brigade was made an OBE for services to young people in the Inverness area.
Mary Lewis Machin, county ambassador for Girlguiding Ross-shire, mas made an MBE for services to Girlguiding and the community in Ross-shire, meanwhile.
Mairi Levack, former coach at North Uist Amateur Athletics Club received a BEM for services to sport and young people on the islands.
And a BEM was also handed to Stromness-based Joyce Tulloch, 71, for services to Girlguiding since 1981 and to the community in Orkney.
Last night, Mrs Tulloch said: “I was taken aback actually. I was very surprised, but also very pleased.
“I just want to thank Girlguiding Orkney for obviously putting forward my name. It’s all about being part of a team really.”
