A person has died at a house fire in Shetland, police have confirmed.
Emergency services raced to the scene of the blaze in Lerwick in the late hours of Saturday evening, as a two-storey building was alight with at least one person inside the building.
Five fire engines were sent to the house on Burns Lane after a call was received at 11.59pm, with firefighters tackling the blaze for nearly three hours before it was brought under control.
A spokesman confirmed two crews from Brae were joined by single appliances from Lerwick, Sandwick and Bixter with six firefighters draped in breathing apparatus entering the building.
Firefighters utilised two main jets and two hose reel jets to extinguish the blaze, with a stop message relayed back to the fire service control room at 2.53am yesterday morning.
One person, believed to be a woman, was taken to hospital by ambulance.
Police confirmed investigations are underway to establish the cause of the fire and they continue to work closely with colleagues from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
