Ullapool Dance is presenting two evenings of entertainment covering both traditional and modern styles.
The charity is holding the events as it takes a break from the regular dance festival in order to plan for a bigger event next year.
On Friday, March 8 at the Macphail Theatre there will be a professional contemporary performance from acclaimed Ross-shire company plan B and opened by Ullapool Youth Dance Company. Saturday, March 9 offers traditional ceilidh dancing with dance performances and a DJ Nightclub in the Royal Hotel, Ullapool.
Plan B’s production of “Tantalus” is created and performed by Neil Joseph Price (Herald Culture Award Best Dance Performer 2017). It is Neil Price’s first piece of choreography with original music composed by Shooglenifty’s Quee MacArthur, and designed and directed by plan B’s Artistic Director, Frank McConnell.
Inspired by the Greek mythological figure Tantalus, this solo piece explores the emotional journey for a man pulled in conflicting directions, whilst seeking his own independence and fulfilment.
Ullapool Youth Dance Company has been rehearsing with local dance development officer Alice Wilkins and they will open the plan B evening with a piece choreographed by Ms Wilkins.
She recently became a television celebrity after her appearance on Channel 4’s “Flirty Dancing” with Ashley Banjo. She will perform during the Saturday evening ceilidh along with drag artist Skini Mini and traditional and modern pieces by Ullapool Highland Dancers.
The traditional ceilidh dancing stops at 10.30pm and the event turns into a nightclub featuring local DJ Alex Lintern.
