Work is underway to build a new nursery in Moray.
Temporary accommodation huts are being demolished to make way for the new Pilmuir pre-school centre in Forres.
Funding has been provided by the Scottish Government as part of its expansion of early learning and childcare being rolled out across the country.
This sets out the vision for increasing entitlement to free childcare for youngsters before they are old enough to attend primary school.
The £2million is being invested in the facility to ensure the young children are learning in a high standard building.
The Pilmuir project consists of three classrooms, while outdoor spaces will also be created for kids to play and learn outside of the conventional place.
Construction works started at the site last month and are expected to last until the end of the year.
The nursery children will use classrooms in the school until the works are completed.
Councillor Sonya Warren, chairwoman of the council’s children and young people’s committee, said: “It really is good to see the creation of some much-needed spaces for early learning and childcare in Forres.
“It is vital for all our little people to get the best start in life and these new builds will help them do that.
“They offer an ideal setting for them to begin their education.”
The revamp is part of the Scottish Government’s commitment to expand childcare hours from 600 hours to 1,140 hours for three and four-year-olds, as well as some two-year-olds.
Funding has been awarded to Moray Council to complete projects before 2020, with a similar project to take place at Cullen Primary at some point in the next few months.
A Moray Council spokeswoman said: “The children are involved with the evolving building site, with contractors talks on safety around the site and they keep them updated with the progress of the building as well.
“The wee ones are super excited to watch the diggers every day.”
