Shoppers in the Western Isles are being given the chance to support three local organisations – with £7,000 of funding up for grabs.
Tesco has made a funding pot of £300,000 available nationwide, with Swim Western Isles, Volunteering Hebrides or West Harris Trust the local organisations selected.
Shoppers are being asked to vote using their blue tokens handed out at checkout points, with the group with the most awarded £4,000.
The runners-up will receive £2,000 and £1,000 respectively.
Alec Brown, Tesco’s head of community, said: “Bags of Help has already been making waves across Britain, responding to the needs of local communities and by listening to colleagues and customers, we identified an opportunity to dedicate funding to groups and charities improving and preserving our wonderful coastlines in the Western Isles.
“From life-saving and swimming safety projects, to sailing clubs, beach clean ups and coastal wildlife projects, we’ve seen a fantastic mix of nominations, and we encourage customers to cast their votes in store for shortlisted groups this month.”
The special scheme has been run in partnership with community charity Groundwork with more than 100 coastline projects set to receive a share of the total £300,000 worth of funding.
