Moray Coastguard volunteers visited several north-east primary schools to promote drowning prevention week.
Teams across the region engaged with more than 500 primary and secondary school pupils to raise awareness of how to prevent the threat of drowning and educating them to be safe in and around the water.
The aim of the visits were to encourage people to enjoy the coast and the water but to take basic steps to keep themselves safe.
Pupils from Banff, Crudie, Whitehills, Portsoy, Cullen, Findochty, Portknockie, Buckie and Hopeman all took part and have learned the importance of a basic message:
‘If you fall into water – float for your life’.
Moray Coastguard also released instructions as to how people should respond if they stranded at sea.
It read: “Fight your instincts to panic and thrash around and lie back, extending your arms and legs.
“If you need to, gently move your arms and legs around to help you float and then float until you can control your breathing.
“Only then, call for help or swim to safety.”
If any other clubs/schools would like visits, they should contact Moray Coastguard.
Some of their volunteers were at the Scottish Traditional Boat Festival at Portsoy during the weekend.
