A “talent attraction manager” will offer expert advice which could ease the staffing crisis in Moray’s health services.
Rona Campbell has recently been installed in the position with Highland and Islands Enterprise.
She will meet NHS Grampian’s chief executive, Amanda Croft, to discuss what can be done to attract staff to Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin.
The maternity ward was downgraded last year due to a lack of trainee doctors, with numerous staffing problems also affecting the children’s ward there.
Moray MSP Richard Lochhead is to help bring the two bosses together, saying it is “essential” that ramped up recruitment efforts are carried out to restore women and children’s services.
He said: “I look forward to having a full service is back up and running in Moray.
“However, it remains a concern of mine that we may not be able to recruit the necessary staff to allow the plan to be implemented, and as such I’ve asked NHS Grampian to provide me with an update on what positive steps are being taken to recruit staff and how they can promote the hospital and Moray as a good place to work and live.
“These discussions are essential – especially in terms of recruiting the key personnel required to reinstate maternity and children’s services at Dr Gray’s.”
