A young man from Oban with his sights set on working at the town’s airport took a step closer to his dream thanks to a fundraisers held this week.
A sponsored walk in the town will help airport volunteer Cameron Allen attend a 10-day meteorological observers course in Aberdeen.
Cameron, 18, who suffers with brittle bone disease, has been doing work experience at the airport throughout the past academic year and has taken part in almost all of the roles required at an airport.
The course will allow him to record observations that are used to advise pilots on the local weather conditions.
These reports are also used by the Met Office when they are forecasting the weather for the local area.
A spokesman for Oban Airport said: “The course will allow Cameron to carry on working at the airport on a voluntary basis.
“He has a keen interest in aviation and is keen on a career in the industry and this course will open up many opportunities for him in the future.
“Accommodation will be required in order for Cameron to attend the event and this event is to help gather the funds for his stay in Aberdeen.
“Cameron has osteogenesis imperfecta, brittle bone disease, which means that his whole family will have to stay in Aberdeen in order to help him throughout his two-week stay.
“This means that that accommodation will be more expensive and we’d be extremely grateful if you were able to help us raise money to cover some of these costs.”
