A Highlands and Islands MSP has praised the work of staff and volunteers who have set up an Earth Guardians group in Moray.
Whale and Dolphin Conservation (WDC) and the Scottish Wildlife Trust have started the scheme to encourage young people to build relations with the natural environment.
As a summer club for 9-13 year olds, it is aimed at helping children understand the importance of the environment and what to watch out for in the wild.
It runs on the last Sunday of every month to October from 2pm until 4pm at the Scottish Dolphin Centre in Spey Bay.
Highlands and Islands MSP Jamie Halcro Johnston submitted a motion to the Scottish Parliament on Thursday to welcome the group’s effort to highlight the importance of the wildlife.
He said: “The Scottish Dolphin Centre, which is run by WDC, is a really interesting place to visit and the enthusiasm of the staff and volunteers there is infectious.
“It is a great showcase for our area and its success demonstrates the widespread and growing interest here in Moray in our natural environment, something I am sure that Earth Guardians will be able to tap into.
“Moray is one of the most beautiful places in Scotland and is rich in natural habitats and wildlife. And the coastline is a fantastic place to see seabirds, seals, dolphins and even whales.”
