Skerryvore top the bill as the Tivoli lays on another lavish Hogmanay event

The Tivoli Theatre is one of Scotland's most famous venues.

An Aberdeen theatre which beams its Hogmanay celebrations around the world has revealed this year’s line-up.

The Tivoli Theatre hosted Hogmanay Live for the first time last year, with audiences in 43 countries entertained by the Graham Geddes Band from the comfort of their homes.

Now the team has revealed acclaimed band Skerryvore will top the bill this year.

The group, who won Best Scottish Live Act in 2016 and 2011 are currently on a world tour, including Australia and the USA, and will finish the year in the Granite City.

Organisers are hoping to build on the success of last year’s sell-out and hope to stream this year’s show over the internet to more than 50 countries.

Up-and-coming Edinburgh band Chameleon Lady, who appeared at a number of French festivals this summer, will also perform.

Scottish folk singer Alex Hodgson completes the bill.

He is also a great exponent of Robert Burns music which he performs in his own contemporary fashion at venues as far afield as New Zealand and Canada.

A Hogmanay Live spokeswoman said “We are over the moon that Skerryvore have agreed to headline our Hogmanay celebrations.

“It’s great to be involved in a worldwide event, not only showcasing Aberdeen, but the country of Scotland, while spreading its culture and traditions to a worldwide audience.

“Walkers Shortbread, one of Scotland’s biggest companies, have continued their sponsorship from last year and other major sponsors will be revealed shortly.

“The Tivoli has a long tradition of staging traditional Scottish music since it opened in 1872 and continues to be the home of the Fiddlers Rally.

“This completes another wonderful year at the Tivoli which also featured Sir Ian McKellen performing at the theatre.”

The show runs from 9pm-1am. Tickets go on sale tomorrow at 8am at Aberdeen Box Office.
