The discovery was made on Talisker Bay on Saturday at around 5pm. The Stornoway coastguard were immediately made aware of the discovery at 5.10pm and sent a team to the scene. A Royal Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was then sent north from the Clyde’s Faslane naval base to deactivate the device. The grenade was described as a Mark-69 C hand grenade. A Stornoway coastguard spokesman said: “It’s been found on the beach. We have cordoned it off. It is a proper grenade that could explode and kill.”
