A woman escaped with minor injuries last night after a spectacular crash at Aberdeen beach that left her car dangling over the sea wall.
The vehicle skidded across the pavement, down a grass slope, across another walkway, through a wooden fence and then down a concrete embankment before coming to rest on the wall.
The nose of the car – a purple Fiat 500 – was left dangling over the wall about three feet above the sand.
The woman, in her 20s, suffered an ankle injury in the accident and was taken to hospital.
It is not clear if she was driving the car or if she had been a passenger.
The crash happened about 9.40pm at the Esplanade, opposite the Beach Ballroom.
Police and ambulance crews were on the scene within minutes of receiving the call.
The woman managed to get herself out of the stranded vehicle and was taken by ambulance to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
Officers cordoned off a large area around the route the Fiat had taken before the crash.
Vehicle parts were strewn across a wide distance.
Several police cars remained on the scene while investigations were carried out to try to prevent passers-by from slowing down to try to see what had happened.
At 11.05pm, two recovery units, one with lifting equipment, arrived to begin the delicate operation of removing the car off the wall and back on to the road. A police spokesman said officers were still trying to establish what happened and their inquiries were ongoing.
One dog walker said the area was always busy at night with young motorists.
Police have previously targeted the area in a series of high-profile operations in an effort to crack down on so-called “Bouley bashers”.
