Five players share the lead on two-under-par 68 and another eight are breathing down their necks on 69 at the halfway stage of PGA Scotland’s Tain-Brora 36-hole Challenge.
The first round was over the par 70 Tain course and setting the pace as the field moves up to Brora, the most northerly venue for the Tartan Tour, are Jonathan Cliff (Murrayfield), Ross MacLeod (Clydeway Golf), Chris Kelly (Cawder), Gareth Wright (West Linton) and Craig Ronald (Carluke).
First prize is £1,103 and it is easier to name the Grand National winner than predict who will step up to collect the four-figure cheque at the conclusion of the two-rounder in the far north.
Dornoch golfer Jimmy Gunn narrowly missed out on victory in the 54-hole Santa Ana Star Casino New Mexico Open. The 32-year-old made it through to a four-man play-off along with Scott Roudebush, Wil Collins and Charlie Beljan after rounds of 67, 65 and 65 at Santa Ana Golf Club.
However it was Beljan who triumphed in the play-off to claim the first prize of £9,067 with Gunn receiving £4,742 for his joint second place finish.
