Jail for thug who attacked his girlfriend

A thug threatened to kill his pregnant girlfriend and chop her “into pieces” after a savage attack at their Aberdeen home.

Kieran Ord banged his partner’s head off the floor and bit her nose while she was six months pregnant.

He dragged her from their flat and told her he was going to take her somewhere to kill her, before she managed to escape.

The 22-year-old was sentenced to almost two years in prison yesterday for the attack and for another occasion when he stole a knife from a party and threatened to kill someone.

But, after sentencing at Aberdeen Sheriff Court, his distraught girlfriend, Cindy Stewart said the father of her five-month-old daughter should have been spared jail so he could watch the youngster grow up.

“He shouldn’t have been sent to prison – he needs help,” she said.

The court heard Ord had returned home to St Machar Court on March 31 this year to discover his girlfriend was not speaking to him after he failed to get in touch with her all day.

Procurator fiscal Felicity Merson told the court this wound him up and he snapped.

Ms Merson said that when Miss Stewart was later examined by paramedics, she had a cut on her nose, a bump on her head and clumps of hair were missing.

Ord’s defence agent, Christopher Maitland, said: “He appears to be genuinely remorseful,” he said.

But Sheriff Graeme Napier said the attacker’s actions were unforgivable.

“How you can do that to any other human being is beyond me,” he said.

“How you can do this to your girlfriend is even further beyond me – and how you can do it to a girlfriend who is pregnant is beyond the comprehension of every single person in this room.”

Sheriff Napier sentenced Ord – whose address was given in court papers as 15 Tradlin Circle, Aberdeen – to eight months in prison for the attack and a further 15 months for possessing a knife.
