Boyd is upbeat despite rough road

Ross County defender Scott Boyd was down but not disheartened after the Staggies lost out on another away day.

County are still searching for a first on-the-road win of the campaign after a 3-1 defeat at Motherwell.

Dutch midfielder Melvin de Leeuw had County ahead at half-time but second-half goals from John Sutton (2) and Well substitute Bob McHugh gave the home side victory.

Boyd said: “It is too early to panic. We got a great result against Hearts and we are really disappointed we could not hang in there at Motherwell. We are positive about things. We are not past the first quarter of the season yet. If we can put a few results together I am sure we will be fine.

“We started well, got ahead and I felt we were pretty comfortable. In the second half Motherwell scored an early goal, kicked on and we did not respond.

“We know we need to work hard. We always knew it was going to be tough this season after what we did in the last campaign.

“Motherwell are one of the favourites to finish second and we knew it was going to be tough. We can’t get too down about it. People can make a lot of it but we know if we get a couple of results we can go up the league.”

The 27-year-old County defensive stalwart believes the Staggies can take inspiration from league leaders Inverness as they aim to climb the table when Aberdeen head to Dingwall on Saturday.

He added: “It is good for the Highlands that Inverness are doing well. Last season both of us were up there challenging and there is a bit of rivalry.

“It pushes us on when they are doing well and I am sure when we are doing well it pushes them on. It is great to see them at the top and, hopefully, we can be up there challenging.

“We need to make ourselves hard to beat. If we can pick up points away from home and win our home games then I am sure we will be fine. We were second or third bottom at Christmas last year and we went on a great run.

“It is a long season and it can all change in the matter of a few games. We won’t beat ourselves up too much.”
