Fuel duty will be frozen until May 2015 – providing the UK Government finds savings elsewhere in its budget.
Chancellor George Osborne yesterday dismissed Labour leader Ed Miliband’s promise of a freeze on gas and electricity prices after the next general election as a gimmick but put forward a pledge of his own to halt spiralling costs in another area hitting people in the pocket.
Mr Osborne also told the Conservative conference in Manchester he would ensure a future Tory government would run a surplus in good times as well as bad to ensure the UK was prepared for any future economic crash.
