McInnes could open Flood gates

McInnes could open Flood gates

Aberdeen may be unbeaten in six matches but manager Derek McInnes will not be scared to change his side for today’s trip to Dingwall to face Ross County.

McInnes will have to decide whether to keep faith in the young players who have served him well in recent games or bring back the more experienced Willo Flood, Russell Anderson and Niall McGinn who are all available after injury.

The Dons manager admits choosing his starting XI won’t be an easy task but says that competition for places is a nice headache to have.

He said: “Whenever you go on a six-game unbeaten run, the players have been putting in a level of performance. That always makes it a bit more challenging when you are picking the team but for the right reasons.

“It is good for a manager to have players available and I am always willing to change a winning team as every game is different and you have to respect your opponents.

“We have got some quality players coming back but the ones who got their opportunities when the others were out showed their quality, too. It is a good dilemma to have.”

Despite their commendable recent form, McInnes has warned his players that they will have to improve on Monday’s performance against St Mirren if they are going to record Aberdeen’s first victory against the Staggies.

The Dons required a late Peter Pawlett goal to earn a draw against the Buddies but McInnes accepts his players weren’t at their best.

He added: “There were a few reasons why we weren’t at our best but probably the biggest reason of all was our opponents, so we have to give St Mirren credit.

“We know we are better than that. The players and myself were frustrated with the performance and we know we have to be better than that to win games in this league.

“The positive aspect for me is the boys in this team never know when they are beaten and their reaction to going behind against St Mirren was excellent.

“We finished the game strongly but we know if we are going to win games we have got to put in a better performance on Saturday.”

Ross County have confirmed that tickets for both home and away supporters will be on sale at the club’s ticket office from 1pm until kick-off.
