Teen thief threw a “drunken strop”

A shop worker has been ordered to carry out unpaid work after she was caught on CCTV stealing a customer’s cash.

Nicole McCall was standing behind a man at the Asda store in Links Road, Aberdeen, when he walked away without his £50 cash back.

The 19-year-old approached the self-service machine and took the money the previous customer had left behind.

She then scanned her own discount card and paid for her purchases with the stolen cash.

McCall, who was off duty the time, took the money from the supermarket on April 1.

The teenager was subsequently sacked from her job and on Saturday she went into a “drunken strop” and smashed up her boyfriend’s property after he left her to go out drinking.

Yesterday McCall appeared from custody at Aberdeen Sheriff Court and admitted committing three offences in total.

The court heard that when she returned to the flat she shares with her partner, at 632 George Street, she smashed three windows and a pane of glass in a door. She also knocked the TV to the ground causing it to crack and hung her boyfriend’s Xbox out of a window by its cord. A Sky box was also damaged.

The court heard police were called and had to give chase after she fled the scene.

When they eventually caught up with her further down George Street, she continued to lash out and kicked one officer, Dana McIntosh, repeatedly on the leg.

Representing the first offender, solicitor David Sutherland said she had gone into a “drunken strop” with her boyfriend as he had planned to leave her and go out drinking.

He said she had been drinking to cope with being unemployed after she lost her job following the earlier “opportunistic theft”.

Ordering her to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work in the next three months, Sheriff Kenneth Stewart said he was concerned McCall may be falling into a “course of conduct” and warned her not to repeat the behaviour.
