Six members of the Grampian Transport Museum’s Young Engineers Club are travelling to the world-famous Goodwood motor racing circuit for the national final of the Formula 24 Challenge on Sunday.
The F24 Challenge is organised by Greenpower and is a four-hour endurance race for karts powered by two 12V batteries and a standard motor. The winner is the team that goes farthest in the four hours using three sets of 12V batteries. Over 400 teams enter the competition, which is run at racing circuits across the UK.
The Young Engineers Club is an integral part of the museum and gives young people the opportunity to be exposed to engineering and technical challenges. The club is now in its sixth year of competing in Formula 24 and this is its fifth year of competing at Goodwood. Representing the club in this year’s final will be Nathan Vickers, Ewan Crowden, Mac McGilvray, Ramsay Taylor, Katie Taylor and Imogen Vickers.
Mike Ward, museum curator, is delighted that the group have reached the final of the competition: “The Young Engineers Club is a fantastic example of our educational remit and I am thrilled that the six members of the team will be able to take part in this fantastic competition at one of the most iconic venues in motor racing. They have done superbly well to reach the final and we wish them well at Goodwood.”
