Aberdeen golfer Paul Lawrie played alongside former world footballer of the year Luis Figo in yesterday’s Portugal Masters pro-am tournament at Faro.
However, it appears the former Barcelona, Real Madrid and Inter Milan player, who is the most capped Portuguese player in history with 127 internationals, isn’t likely to be following Andriy Shevchenko’s lead in attempting to make the transition from football to golf anytime soon.
Lawrie said: “I played with Luis Figo in the pro-am. He was a great guy but he’s not a golfer.”
Dons supporter Lawrie didn’t allow the opportunity to pass without trying to persuade the 40-year-old to come out of retirement and join his beloved Reds.
He added: “I offered Figo Derek McInnes’s mobile number but he said he would be no use to him.”
